At a meeting held Wednesday evening, May 8th, the North Tarrytown
Planning Board r e c e i v e d a verbal report f r o m Mr. Grout regarding the status of
the North Tarrytown Housing Project. A l s o d i s c u s s e d was the fare zoning to be
applied under the new Taxicab Ordinance. Attending the meeting w e r e : John
Scribano, Emil Imhof, Raymond Willmott and George Lopano.
In his Housing Report, Mr. Grout advised that the project i s being
held up due to tl>e fact that the new specifications must be drawn up and submitted
for approval. These new specifications a r e aimed at reducing the erection c o s t s
s o that new bids within the debit l i m i t s can be requested as soon a s p o s s i b l e . The
m e m b e r s of the Planning Board asked what action could be taken to d e m o l i s h the
buildings'which the Housing Authority has acquired and which at present a r e an e y e s o r e and hazard. They were advised that p e r m i s s i o n was expected m o m e n t a r i l y
to proceed with the demolition and that the contract p o s s i b l y could be let e a r l y in
June.
Taxi operators f r o m the Village of Tarrytown and North Tarrytown
participated in a d i s c u s s i o n of f a r e s and fare zoning as existing at p r e s e n t and a s
they might be applied to the Village of North Tarrytown. It was unanimously
agreed that ttSe zones be set up. It was the understanding of all present that zone
one of North Tarrytown would be c o - t e r m i n u s with zone one in Tarrytown, and
that p a s s e n g e r s boarding a cab at the Tarrytown Railroad Station would travel
anywhere within zone one for 50c/. It was a l s o agreed that the zone in which the
p a s s e n g e r boarded the cab would be the b a s i s for a 50c/ charge and each zone
entered or p a s s e d through thereafter would call for an additional 25^ c h a r g e . It
was felt that a b u s e s of short-hauls between two z o n e s would be c o r r e c t e d by the
taxi operators t h e m s e l v e s .
When m o r e than one p a s s e n g e r i s involved, the first two, traveling
together to a c o m m o n point, would travel for the price of one. In c a s e s where
the ultimate f a r e was l e s s than $ 1 . 0 0 , all additional p a s s e n g e r s , r e g a r d l e s s of
common stopping point, would cost an additional 25c/ each. In c a s e s where the
ultimate fare would be more than $ 1 . 00, all additional p a s s e n g e r s would be
charged 50^ e a c h .
Attached hereto i s a l i s t of the five z o n e s which w e r e set up, i n d i c a ting s t r e e t boundaries.
