Present: Mr. Frank Arvan, Chairman Mr. Louis Falasca Mr. Juan Menendez Ms. Annegret Rice Also Present: Mr. James Margotta, Building Inspector Ms. Francesca Lorenz, Recording Secretary Absent: Mr. Robert Barstow Mr. Brian Slavin Ms. Marion Reilly Mr. Arvan opened the meeting 8:15PM. IN THE MATTER OF SUSHI RAKU RESTAURANT. 275-279 NO. BROADWAY. NO. TARRYTOWN. N. Y. This is a sign request. Mr. Thomas Curtin, owner of the building where this restaurant is located, appeared before the ARB and gave a background history of the sign and requested that the pedestal sign be "grandfathered" and allowed to remain. He also stated that the current signage was strongly recommended by the previous Village Administrator and Mayor. At this point, Ms. Rice commented that the present pedestal sign was not in keeping with the present restaurant's decor. It is a Japanese restaurant, and the present sign is more in keeping with a diner or a gasoline station. The Board suggested a smaller sign, perhaps "pagoda" style with illumination coming from under the small bush plantings that are currently in place. Mr. Juan Menendez made a motion to deny the sign request and that a sign design be presented at the next meeting. Added to the motion was that a 30 day limit be given to have the present sign taken down. Ms. Rice seconded motion. Motion carried. IN THE MATTER OF DONOVAN GLASS. 95 BEEKMAN AVENUE. NO. TARRYTOWN. N. Y. This is a sign request for Donovan Glass, located in the Van Tassel building. Mr. Donovan appeared before the Board and requested that the present sign be allowed to remain. He stated that he has invested a considerable amount of money on the sign, and changes the display in the window monthly. 1 �After a lengthy discussion concerning the plans of the Van Tassel management and what plans they may have for the store fronts, Mr. Falasca moved to approve the Donovan Glass sign and that all "stickees" that are applied to the window and all other signs are to be removed. Juan Menendez seconded the motion. Motion carried. Mr. Falasca also added to the motion that if at a later date the Van Tassel decides to make all signs conforming, that Mr. Donovan's sign should also conform. Motion carried. IN THE MATTER OF THE SLEEPY HOLLOW BICYCLE SHOP. AVENUE. NO. TARRYTOWN. N. Y. 95 BEEKMAN This is a sign request. Mr. Robert Whelan, owner of the Sleepy Hollow Bicycle shop which is located in the Van Tassel building, raised the same questions as the previous applicant. Information was given to the Board regarding a grant from the New York State Urban Development Corporation to the Village for signage. As the Van Tassel may be a recipient of part of the grant, it was decided to table this request, and to postpone sign approvals until further word is received from UDC. IN THE MATTER OF JOHN TORNELLO. 256 NORTH BROADWAY. NO. TARRYTOWN. N. Y. This is a request to change the facade of the present building on the property. Plans call for a mansard roof over the present structure. The Board suggested that the mansard roof extend to the side of the building. On one side the roof will probably go two feet before it is no longer visible. Approval was given for the mansard roof, and Mr. Tornello will have to come back before the Board to get approval of the brick material before he starts the next phase of the construction. IN THE MATTER OF TED & CHERYL KAWALERSKI. 7 EVERGREEN WAY. NO. TARRYTOWN. N. Y. This is a request for approval of a dormer addition. Mr. Kawalerski appeared before the board and stated the dormer would add to the esthetics of the house. The shingles would match cedar shingles presently on house. Ms. Annegret Rice made a motion to approve the design. Falasca seconded the motion. Motion carried. Mr. IN THE MATTER OF SLEEPY HOLLOW MOTORS. 300 NORTH BROADWAY. NO. TARRYTOWN. N. Y. 10591 2 �Mr. Tom Muradian, General Manager of Sleepy Hollow Motors, requested approval to hang red, white and blue pennant type banners around the outside of their showroom for sixty days. Ms. Rice asked where the bunting would be placed, and was told at the south and west windows. Mr. Falasca moved to approve hanging of the red, white and blue bunting outside of Sleepy Hollow Motors from September 15 to October 15 (30 days) . Ms. Rice seconded the motion. Motion carried. IN THE MATTER OF MICHAEL AND MARY PALAZZI. 11 IAKEVIEW AVENUE. NO. TARRYTOWN. N. Y. This is a request to approve a new addition. After a brief discussion, Mr. Palazzi stated the addition would be stucco. A motion to approve the design of the addition was made by Mr. Falasca, and seconded by Mr. Menendez. Motion carried. Mr. Palazzi does not have a contractor as yet, he is still getting estimates. He was advised by Mr. Margotta to have 3 sets of drawings with seals and signatures, and he will issue a building permit. IN THE MATTER OF PETER & MICHELLE CASTRO (AMOCO STATION). 335 N. BROADWAY. NO. TARRYTOWN. N. Y. This is a sign request for a canopy, and materials. Mr. Margotta variances. stated the the project has all the required Mr. Joseph R. Crocco, Architect, representing Mr. Castro, appeared before the Board. Presently there is a free standing sign on the property. The Board has frequently ruled that if there is a free standing sign with the company name on it, the canopy cannot bear a sign. The same stands true for the reverse. Mr.Arvan stated that the Board is clear about the use of signage for gas stations, and that is, a free standing sign with the company name, and 2) the name on the building is sufficient, and a clean canopy. In addition, all other signs required by law are to remain. Mr. Falasca moved to approve the free standing sign and a sign on the building, and the canopy is to remain blank. Motion was seconded by Annegret Rice. Motion carried. 3 �APPROVAL OF MINUTES A motion to approve the July minutes as written was made by Mr, Falasca, seconded by Annegret Rice. Motion carried.
