Camp Date: August 27, 2013 Re: PO Warren Lodging Reimbursement In June I had PO James Warren attend an FBI Carbine Instructor School, held at the Suffolk County PD Firearms Range in Westhampton NY. PO Warren attended the first day of class of instruction on Monday June 17, 2013, traveling the more than 90 mile route which took over two hours, each way. I advised him that I would reimburse three nights of stay at a local motel in order to avoid the additional daily travel of 4 hours each day and that no overtime would be paid for the travel. PO Warren should be reimbursed for his lodging. This training course was not a course of study requested under the CBA, it was a course of training that I authorized, as he will conduct such training on an armual basis within this police department, as a firearms instructor. Two hours travel each way equals approximately $143.45 totaling $286.90 per day. We were planning on doing a Block on Sunday Sept 15th from 2pm until sundown-ish on Devries Ave (between Bellwood to B'way). Kids have school the next day so we cant stay out late. We will have some games for the kids (scavenger hunt, arts and crafts, a pinata). We will run music off an ipod into an out door speaker, and everyone is doing pot luck for food. The families on Devries Ave are very close. We always spend time together so this is just making it a bit more special because kids can play in the street and everyone can be together outside. We'd love the street closed on the corner of Bellwood and Devries and also the entrance onto Devries from Rt. 9 starting around 2pm. We are not anticipating many guests, just the neighbors so there shouldn't be a traffic issue. Let me know if you need more information. Usually our meetings are geared towards females but this will be a way to incorporate the whole family and deliver a clear message that anyone regardless of their occupation, background or experience, can indeed make a difference in our community even when we think we're all too busy to do anything different.
