PRESENT: James Nazemetz, Chairman Rosaria Piomelli Elvira Aloia Barbara Fina Sean McCarthy Robert Barstow Louis Falasca ALSO PRESENT: Janet Gandolfo, Attorney James Margotta, Building Inspector 1. Phelps Memorial Hospital, 701 North Broadway-Sign. The following appeared to represent Phelps Memorial Hospital: Michael Rosenzweig, Engineer, Mike Palmieri and Michael Bierut. Mr.Bierut presented plans and photographs for the Board to consider. Mr. Bierut stated that the hospital was becomming affiliated with other hospitals and the hospital cannot be seen from the road, therefore a sign stating the various affiliations was needed. Mr. Bierut stated that the height of the new sipr. would be approximately 78 inches in height, would be internally illuminated, would be ualX green in color '-nd would be situated on a concrete base. Chairman Nazemetz moved, seconded by Mr. McCarthy to open the meeting for public comments. Carried. There being no public comments, Chairman Nazemetz moved, seconded by Mr. McCarthy to close the meeting for public comments. Carried. Mr. Falasca felt that the sign was too high and stated that the hospital should have local people to install the sign. Ms. Fina stated she would like a sign that was low keyed which would blend in with the trees. Mr. Beirut stated there would be landscaping around the bottom of the sign and stated the sign was needed so people looking for the hospital would be able to find it. Mr. Beirut stated that the new sign would be approximately on the same spot as the present sign. Discussion followed regarding the temporary fund raising therometer placement, the height of the new sign and the colors of the sign. Mr. Barstow questioned the safety issue and whether the size of the new sign would be distracting to travelers on Route 9. �s. • / Mr. Beirut stated that similar signs would be installed on the grounds directing people to the various buildings. Ms. Piomelli questioned the size of the letters and whether they could be seen from both sides. i^rSarlZNazEae^a stated that the Board would like local people CE£I to be given consideration for the construction of the sign. There being no further comments, Mr. Falasca moved, seconded by Ms. Piomelli to accept the application as presented. Carried. MINUTES Mr. McCarthy moved, seconded by Mr. Nazemetz that the minutes of the meeting held on Janaury 22nd, 1997 be approved as submitted. Carried. Ms. Piomelli moved, seconded by Mr. McCarthy that the minutes of the meeting held on February 26th, 197 be approved as submitted. Carried. NEW BUSINESS Building Inspector Margotta reported he had sent letters to the owners of the Sunoco Station at the corner of Pocantico & Broadway and to Tappan Motors, New Broadway and Broadway regarding their signs. Ll^'is^ion followed regarding the status of building owned by Antonio Rodrigues on o!?fdway which was damaged by fire. Mr. Margotta stated that attullumg Permit has been issued and he stated that the remaining walls had been damaged by high winds and he directed Mr. Rodrigues to take them down. Mr. Margotta also stated that the building had been less than 50% damaged by the fire. Ms. Piomelli questioned if Mr. Rodrigues would be willing to return before the Board to discuss various options in the reconstruction of the building now that the walls had been taken down. Ms. ftWig stated that the Board was willing to work with Mr. Rodrigues if he would like to make some changes in the facade. Attorney Gandolfo suggested that the Building Inspector call Mr. Rodrigues and inform him of the Board's concern, and ask him if he would like to come back to discuss the "facade" before he gets totffar into reconstruction. Chairman Nazemetz stated that the next meeting of the Board would be held on April 23rd, 1997. There being no further business to come before the Board, Ms. Fina moved, seconded by Ms. Aloia that the same be duly adjourned.
