PRESENT: James Nazemetz, Chairman Sean McCarthy Robert Barstow Louis fralasca Elvira $loia ABSENT: Rosaria Piomelli Barbara fcina Janet Gandolto, Attorney ALSO PRESENT: James Margotta, Building Inspector Chairman Nazemetz called the meeting to order at 8:00 P.M. 1. Ronald Turnquist, Architect-hive Store fronts. Mr. Turnquist informed the Board that the five store fronts to be in the program are as follows: 1. 128 Cortlandt Street-Shutters, awnings and lights are to be installed. Awnings to be burgandy in cGjlbr. 2. 131 Cortlandt Street-tacade improvement and tour iigjht fixtures. 3. 31 Beekman Avenue-Two new awnings and three light fixtures color to be terra cotta. 4. 90 Valley Street-trank Chevrolet- New awning and three light fixtures with large globe - same as Van Tassel Apts. Awning to be Mediterraen Blue of?Burgandy. Awning to have name and address. 5. 175 Valley Street-George Samares-Two awnings to be installed green in color and five new light fixtures. Mr. Nazemetz moved, seconded by Mr. McCarthy to open the meeting for public comments. Carried. There being no public comments, Mr. McCarthy moved, seconded by Mr. Falasca to close the meeting tor public comments. Carried. Discussion followed regarding^ the placing of awnings on the buildings, colors of various awnings to be installed and the total number ot new awnings to be installed. It was the feeling ot Board members that the installation ot too many awnings would be over-doing it. CARRIED. 300 Realty - North Broadway-Installation ot fencing. Mr. Jim Ruttino, Agent tor 300 Realty outlined the project and submitted pictures tor the Board to review. Mr. Ruttino stated that approximately 310 teet ot tencing is to be installed between Lenny's and the Eagles. He stated that the steel posts have been installed and a chain link tence approximately six teet high with two gates, swinging outward, approximately seven teet high will be installed. Mr. Nazemetz moved seconded by Mr. McCarthy to open the meeting tor public comments. Carried. There being no public comments, Mr. Nazemetz moved, seconded by Mr. McCarthy to close the meeting tor public comments. Carried. Discussion tollowed regarding the installation and it was the feeling* ot the Board that the application be denied. Mr. halasca stated that the gate would be opening out into the roadway. Mr. McCarthy stated he was not in tavor ot the installation ot tencing on Broadway. Mr. Barstow stated he was not in tavor o€ the tence. Mrs. Aloia stated she was against fences on Broadway and did not want to set a precedent. Mr. Falasca moved, seconded by Mr. McCarthy that the application be denied and that the posts be removed as soon as possible. Carried. Mr. Ruffino asked if a chain could be installed between the posts and Mr. Nazemetz informed him that the Board would not approve a chain. Mr. Margotta informed Mr. Ruffino that a letter had been sent regarding the condition ot the waii along the property of 315 No. Broadway. Mr. Ruffino stated he would meet with Mr. Margotta to inspect the wall. �-33.Callas R ealty - 66 Beekman Avenue-Sign Jose Rivera the applicant outlined sign to be installed stating it was 33 inches by 8 inches high and read "COLUMBUS CARGO" and that sign was already installed and requested approval ot same. Mr. McCarthy moved, seconded by Mr. balasca to open the meeting tor public comments. Carried. Mr. Miguel Jimenez, 135 Cortlandt Street stated that the awning had his company name on it and he would like the awning removed from the building as he was no longer a tenant. Mr. Margotta stated he would contact the Callas family and request permission to have the awning removed. Mr. Nazemetz moved, seconded by Mr. McCarthy to close the meeting tor public comments. Carried. Discussion followed regarding "neon" signs and several members stated they were not in tavor ot them, and the code did not allow them. Atter further discussion, Mr. talasca moved, seconded by Mr. Barstow that the neon sign be approved as requested and that a variance be granted to cover the installation ot the neon sign, and that the present awning be removed trom the building. Mr. Nazemetz polled the Board as follows: Mr. McCarthy Mr. Barstow Mr. balasca Mrs. Aloia - yes yes yes no Chairman Nazemets declared the motion carried. 4. Maria Brea, 139 Beekman Avenue-Sign. Applicant did not appear. 5. Gustavo Gatell, 110 Beekman Avenue-frire Damage Repair. Mr. McCarthy excused himselt from participating as he is the Architect tor the applicant. Mr. McCarthy presented proof ot mailings to the Clerk. Mr. McCarthy presented photos to the Board showing tire damage and stated they were reconstructing the top floor and that a metal root would be installed, windows were being replaced with double hung windows, which would be lined up with the windows on the lower portion ot the building. Mr. McCarthy stated that the soffits, windows and mansard root would be Patina Green in color. Mr. Nazemetz moved, seconded by Ms. Aloia to open the meeting for public comments. Carried. �-4Mr. Miguel Jimenez, 135 Cortlandt Street stated that the corner ot Beekman Avenue and Cortlandt Street was an important corner in the Village and urged the Board to pass favorably on the application which would improve the area. There being no further comments, Mr. Nazemets moved, seconded by Mr. fralasca to close the meeting tor public comments. Carried. Atter discussion Mr. balasca moved, seconded by Ms. Aloia to approve the application as submitted tor the first phase and that the applicant return at the next meeting to discuss the second phase ot the proj ect. Carried. Mr. McCarthy did not vote. 6. Sleepy Hollow Signs-Jim Laird. Mr. Laird presented revised drawings ot proposed signs to be installed at the entrances to the Village and outlined the construction ot same. Mr. Laird stated that one would be installed near the Sleepy Hollow High School and the other near Phelps Memorial Hospital entrance. Mr. Laird stated that the signs would be dark green with gold lettering. Atter discussion, Mr. talasca moved, seconded by Mc. McCarthy that the application be approved as submitted with the posts to be cedar, mahogony or cypress as recommended by the Board. Carried. MINUTES Mr. Nazemetz moved, seconded by Mr. fcalasca that the minutes ot the meeting held on October 22nd, 1997 be approved as submitted with minor changes. Carried. Mr. Nazemetz stated that the next meeting of the Board will be held on tebruary 25th, 1998. There being no further business to come before the Board, Mr. Nazemetz moved, seconded by Mr. talasca that the same be duly adjourned.
