https://sleepyhollow.localarchives.org/files/original/770b76c77b557f4fb02fb7ab7d84a41a.pdf 04a525a4dff31d59e0d16b3ac722e457 PDF Text Text Meeting Date: 09/24/2019 Resolution #: 09/111/2019 RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF SLEEPY HOLLOW FOR HEALTHY LANDSCAPING PRACTICES I N THE VILLAGE OF SLEEPY HOLLOW, NY WHEREAS, scientific evidence has shown that most commonly used lawn and landscaping pesticides pose a serious threat to water quality, wildlife and human health (particularly to children and pregnant women); and WHEREAS, improper practices with respect to human activities serve as key sources for the introduction of nitrogen and other stormwater pollutants into the environment; and WHEREAS, the Village of Sleepy Hollow recognizes that ail residents (particularly children), as well as other inhabitants of our natural environment, have a right to protection from exposure to hazardous chemicals and pesticides in particular; and WHEREAS, the Village of Sleepy Hollow recognizes that a balanced and healthy ecosystem is vital to the health of the town and its citizens; and as such that our entire watershed and its residents are in need of protection from exposure to hazardous chemicals and pesticides; and WHEREAS, the Village of Sleepy Hollow recognizes that it is in the best interest of public health to eliminate the use of toxic pesticides on Village-owned land and to also encourage the reduction and elimination of the use of toxic pesticides on private property; and WHEREAS, the Village of Sleepy Hollow also recognizes the importance of educating the public on alternatives to synthetic fertilizers and promoting best practices for sustainable lawn care. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Village of Sleepy Hollow intends on establishing a policy to eliminate the use of chemical pesticides for landscaping purposes on Village-owned and leased lands wherever possible ; and BE I T FURTHER RESOLVED, the Village of Sleepy Hollow encourages the dissemination of information and education materials to property owners in the village about reduction in the use of toxic pesticides and alternative methods of pest management and fertilization for the protection of our residents and watershed. Now, therefore, be it resolved that the Board of Trustees hereby awards a bid to Sleepy Halloween Animatronics to provide a haunted hayride show for two nights on October 25th and October 26th, 2019 at a total cost of $35,000.
