("Society") and Armando Galella ("Galella") have entered into a Fiscal Sponsorship Agreement ("Agreement") pursuant to which Galella will raise funds for the erection of a memorial consisting of: (1) (2) (3) (4) (5) A bronze statue depicting Margaret Horan, mother of John Horan who was killed in action at Pearl Harbor, A permanent plaque indicating that the statue is of Margaret Horan and that it is an inclusive symbol of all mothers who have lost a child in the service of the United States, A bronze photograph of John Horan, A plaque that provides information about local soldiers and directs the reader to the Historical Society for coordinated on-line memorial to the residents of the Villages died in service to our country, A plaque that is a Fallen Soldier Memorial and recites "The Battlefield Cross" ("Statue"); and WHEREAS, pursuant to the Agreement, the Society will accept contributions to pay for the Statue, and any funds raised in excess of the cost of the Statue will be held by the Historical Society and contributed to the Village for the care and maintenance of the Statue and its site; and WHEREAS, the Society and Galella have asked the Village for assurance that it will allow the Statue to be erected on Village property at Horan's Landing; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Village will allow erection of the Statue on Village property at Horan's Landing; and be it further RESOLVED, that the Village will accept ownership of the Statue following its erection; and be it further RESOLVED, that the Village will leave the Statue in place for at least 50 years; and be it further �RESOLVED, that any funds contributed to the Village for the care and maintenance of the Statue and its site will be held by the Village for the exclusive care and maintenance of the Statue and its site; and be it further RESOLVED, that if the statue is not erected at Horan's Landing by December 31, 2021, the foregoing Resolutions shall be null and void. The design was selected by GSM president Dorothy Oxidine and endorsed by the board of the GSM. The staue depicts a mother during WW2 a moment after reading the western union telegram grasped in her right hand. She stares into the distance, remembering the son she will never see again. Tears run down her cheeks. Though shaky and near shock at the earth shattering news, she maintains her dignity by leaning on a plant stand which has a picture of her son and a toppled plant representing her world in chaos. The statue is highly detailed and historically correct. The western union telegram is mostly readable and was copied from an original. The dress is pattern of period as well as the shoes and hair style. The framed picture on the table is in an authentic patriotic frame but the picture is blurred to keep the branch of service open to interpretation. The hat is a type worn in some respects to all services. The statue is cast in bronze at LARAN bronze foundry who did the broze portions of the WW2 memorial in Washington D.C. The finished statue weights 421 pounds. Height is approximately 5 foot 9 inches (life size) A stainless steel bolt is provided to attach to the base underside for placement in a hole drilled into the mounting surface. A template will be provided. With anchor cement in the hole, and the statue dropped into place, bolt in hole, the statue is secure. Delivery can be had by driving down to the foundry for a tour after which the statue can be loaded into a pickup truch or a van. Or the foundry can deliver. Installation is simple with only a fork lift and nylon lift straps needed.
