REGULAR MEETING

JUNE 26th, 2002

A regular meeting of the Sleepy Hollow Architectural Review
Board was held on Wednesday, June 26th, 2002 at 8 P.M. in the Village Hall,
28 Beekman Avenue, Sleepy Hollow, New York.
PRESENT:

Chairman Nazemetz called the meeting
1. JAMES &amp; LAURIE JELENEK, 37 HIGHLAND AVENUE-DETACHED GARAGE.
Mr. Jelenek presented affidavits of proof of mailings to Mr.
Stiloski.
Mr. &amp; Mrs. Jelenek presented pictures and drawings and stated
that the garage would be partially visible from the street, as the driveway
is approximately one hundred twenty feet from the front property line.
Mrs. Jelenek stated that the construction of the garage and the
color would match the residence, and all sideyard and rear yards restrictions
will be met.
Mr. McCarthy moved, seconded by Ms. Fina to open the meeting for
public comments. Carried.
There being no public comments, Mr. McCarthy moved, seconded by
Mr. Steiner to close the meeting for public comments. Carried.
After discussion regarding style of door and color of garage,
Mr. McCarthy moved, seconded by Mr. Steiner to approve the plans as submitted.
Carried.
2.

ANTHONY OCCHIONE (HOLLYWOOD NORTH PIZZA) 109 BEEKMAN AVENUE SIGN PERMIT.

Mr. Sam Viera, Architect, presented affidavits of proof of mailings
to Mr. Stiloski.
Mr. Viera stated that the applicant was renovating the kitchen
and a new, larger fan had to be installed. He stated that a new awning would
be installed and the cover of the new fan would match the color of the new
awning. He also stated that the present duct work would be used and the
brackets would match the brackets on the V.T. apartments.
Ms. Fina moved seconded by Mr. McCarthy to open the meeting for
public comments. Carried.

-2Discussion. followed regarding the type and size of fan,
and the location of fan vents.
Mr. McCarthy moved, seconded by Mr. Steiner to approve the
application as submitted. Carried.
3.

REY INSRUANCE, 263 NORTH BROADWAY-SIGN PERMIT.
Ms. Rey presented affidavit of proof of mailings to Mr. Stiloski.

Ms. Rey presented photographs of the present sign and plans
for the new larger sign, and stated that the colors would be green with gold
lettering.
Members questioned the sign bearing the telephone number and
felt that the code did not allow it.
Mr. Rey stated that the present sign has been there for twentyfive years and has the telephone number on it.
Mr. Lammers stated that if the sign did not conform to the Code
the Board could grant a variance to allow the telephone number on the sign.
Mr. McCarthy moved, seconded by Mr. Nazemetz to open the meeting
for public comments. Carried.
There being no public comments, Mr. Nazemetz moved, seconded by
Mr. Steiner to close the meeting for public comments. Carried.
Discussion followed regarding the telephone number being on the
sign with members being concerned as the Code does not allow it. Members
were also concerned|vith the size of the sign and type of lettering.
Mr. Nazemetz moved, seconded by Mr. McCarthy that the matter
be continued to the July meeting and the applicant present a revised drawing.
Carried.
4.

THAI GARDEN RESTAURANT, 128 CORTLANDT STREET-SIGN PERMIT.
Applicant presented affidavit of proof

of mailings to Mr.

Stiloski.
Mr. Stiloski stated that the present sign would be removed and
would be replaced with basically the same size and type of sign. He stated
this is a new restaurant and the name would be changed. He also stated that
temporary banners have been installed callingbttention to the new restaurant.
Mr. McCarthy moved, seconded by Ms. Fina to open the meeting for
public comments. Carried.
There being no public comments Mr. Nazemetz moved seconded by Mr.
McCarthy that the meeting for public comments be closed. Carried.
Ms. Fina moved, seconded by Mr. McCarthy to approve the application
as submitted with the same material and construction as the existing sign.

�-3and with the recommendation that the applicant use burgandy as the background "Thai Garden" circle to coordinate with the awning and that the
"Thai Garden" oval be yellow and the lettering "Thai &amp; Vegetable Cuisine"
be light grey as indicated on the applicants drawings. Carried.
Mr. McCarthy stated that if the lettering on the awning is to
be changed it should be the same size and coloring as on the new sign.
5.

CORVETTES OF WESTCHESTER, 281 North Broadway, -SIGN PERMIT.
Applicant presented affidavit of proof of mailings to Mr.

Stiloski.
Applicant outlined the type and size of sign to be installed and
stated they would match the other signs on the building.
Ms. Fina moved seconded by Mr. Steiner to open the meeting for
public comments. Carried.
There being no public comments, Mr. Nazemetz moved, seconded
by Mr. Steiner to close the meeting for public comments. Carried.
Discussion followed regarding the size and color of the sign
which is to be gold leaf lettering on a green sign.

Mr. McCarthy moved, seconded by Ms. Fina to approve the application

CANARIO EXPRESS, 46 BEEKMAN AVENUE-AWNING PERMIT.

Agent for Canario Express presented affidavit of proof of
mailings to Mr. Stiloski.
Agent stated that the frame for the awning was already there
and that the old awning had been removed and asked for approval of the new
awning. He stated that the new awning would be burgandy with white lettering.
Mr. McCarthy moved, seconded by Mr. Steiner to open the meeting
for public comments. Carried.
There being no public comments, Mr. McCarthy moved, seconded by
Ms. Fina to close the meeting for public comments. Carried.
Discussion followed regarding shftpe of awning, size of lettering,
color of awning and color of lettering.
Mr. Nazemetz moved, seconded by Mr. McCarthy that the application
be approved and that the color of the awning be burgandy with white lettering,
eight inches in height, the street number to be on the left side, and "Beekman
Avenue" will be removed. Carried.
7.

EDWARD KEEGAN, 285 NORTH BROADWAY-SIGN PERMIT. (SIGN EXTREME, BERT'S AUTO
BODY, MICKEY'S AUTOMOTIVE.
Mr. Keegan presented affidavit of proof of mailings to Mr.

Stiloski.

�-4Agent for applicant presented drawings and photographs and
outlined the type, size of signs to be installed on the north side of the
building. He informed the Board that there were three different types of
businesses in the building and they all would like a sign.
Mr. Larimers stated that the Code allows only one sign on
a building.
Discussion followed regarding separate signs, color of awning,
size of signs and placement of signs.
Mr. Nazemetz stated that more thought must be put into the
signs and awnings to be installed and moved that the matter be be postponed
until the July 24th meeting. Seconded by Mr. Steiner the motion carried.
8.

CFF REALTY INC., 365 (361) North Broadway-ADDITION.

Mr. Nazemetz stated that the matter was postponed as the
applicant must appear before the Zoning Board for approval of the plans.
9.

SLEEPY HOLLOW NATIONAL BANK-47 BEEKMAN avenue-SIGN PERMIT.

Mr. Nazemetz stated that the applicant had requested that the
matter be postponed until the July 24th meeting.
10.

JOAN WATERS-3 PLEASANT STREET-FRONT YARD FENCE.

Mr. Nazemetz stated that the applicant had requested that the
matter be postponed until a later date.
Mr. Nazemetz stated that the next meeting of the Board would
be held on July 24th, 2002.
MINUTES
Ms. Fina moved, seconded by Mr. Steiner to approve the minutes
of the meeting held on May 22nd, 2002 as submitted. Carried.
Mr. Nazemetz abstained from voting as he was not present at the
Mawreeting.
There being no further business to come before the Board, Mr.
McCarthy moved, seconded by Mr. Steiner that the same be duly adjourned.
Carried.
