                  <text>The Honorable Joseph Galgano,
Mayor of North Tarrytown
and
The Board of Trustees of the
Village of North Tarrytown.
One of the most serious problems confronting North
Tarrytown at present is off-street parking.
The central area of the Village is a comgined residential and business district, which complicates the problem*
There are inadequate parking facilities to serve the business
district.

In addition, the majority of homes in the area do

not have sufficient garages to take care of the residents'
automobiles.
The Planning Board has concluded that the Village
must acquire property in the immediate area for parking sites
to at least partially solve the problem.
We recommend that approximately five (5) parcels of
land on the west side of North Washington Street, adjacent to the
school playground, be acquired,

A parking area of approximately

24,000 square feet would thus be made available.

At a proven

ratio of approximately 300 square feet per parking space, this
area would accommodate approximately SO automobiles.
After the land has been acquired, it is suggested the
Board of Education be contacted with regard to exchanging their
present playground area on Beekman Avenue for the five (5)
parcels on North Washington Street.

In our opinion such an

exchange would be mutually advantageous.
A second parking area is recommended opposite the
Municipal Building.

This would encompass the land parcel known

- 2 -

as 21 Beekman Avenue.

Total area available would be approximate-

ly 15,000 square feet and would accommodate approximately 50
automobiles.
Both parking areas should be metered to properly
accommodate the daily business traffic flow.

In the evening

it is recommended the space be utilized by village residents
for over-night parking.

A nominal fee should be assessed as

it is our belief these parking areas must be self-sustaining.
The Planning Board would like to jointly explore the
proposal further with the Village Board of Trustees, with a
view towrd holding a public hearing in the near future.
Respectfully submitted,
ANTHONY GASPAROVIC
