Present: Mayor Gandolfo Trustee Ceconi Trustee Galgano Trustee Salman Trustee Caro Trustee Fudali Absent: Trustee Fine Also Present: R. Thomas Homan, Village Administrator John Hughes, J r . Village Attorney The Mayor called the meeting to order at 7:30 PM. Mayor Gandolfo stated that the reason for this meeting was to certify t h e r e s u l t s of the Village Election. Since there seemed to be a t i e , Tom Homan, the Village Clerk called the Board of Elections to ask for a recanvas of the votes which according to the Election law stays a l l f u r t h e r a c t i o n . She s t a t e d , therefore, the Board cannot certify the r e s u l t s tonight because the Board of Elections did come up with t h e i r t a l l y . There was a one vote difference, but this was not given to us In w r i t i n g y e t . The Village Clerk, Tom Homan, stated that because of the t i e , i t was h i s decision to have a recanvas of the votes cast in the elections. This recanvas was conducted by the Board of Elections from the County t h i s afternoon in the presence of one Republican and one Democratic r e p r e s e n t a t i v e . Pursuant to Section 15-126 (3) of the Election Law, t h i s recanvas must be completed within five days. He stated that his h i s i n s t i t u t i o n of t h i s recanvas stays any further action by him as the Village Clerk with regard to further election procedures required. He also stated that upon completion of t h i s recanvas, the County Board of Elections w i l l notify him of the r e s u l t s in writing at which time, he would produce the returns of the County Board of Elections, so that the Board of Trustees may canvas such returns and f i l e in his office a c e r t i f i c a t e declaring the r e s u l t . The Election law s t a t e s that e i t h e r candidate can request a recanvas themselves within two days of the election. If this i s done, the r e canvassing will probably take place sometime next week. Once he receives a l e t t e r from the candidate with t h i s request, he in turn writes to the Board t e l l i n g them there has been a request with a copy of t h e i r l e t t e r . Upon receipt of that request, the Board of Elections has five days to do the recanvassing. �-2- 9 M&yor Gandolfo stated that after the election results ended In a tie the night of the election* the machines were ordered impounded and ballot boxes locked. The machines were taken to Mt. Pleasant Police Headquarters by our Highway Department, along with Police escort and a representative of each party. The boxes were escorted by the Police into the Village Jail cells. The Inspector of Elections, Peter Welden, was also called and went from district to district.
